Man, where do I even start with this absolute masterpiece? In Mourning has been consistently delivering quality melodic death metal, and "The Bleeding Veil" just proves they're nowhere near running out of steam. This is their sixth and darkest album to date, and honestly, it's a jaw-dropping evolution from their already stellar discography. The album constitutes more of an evolution than a revolution, with the band focusing their energies on making their output flow like a gentle creek while still hammering like a whitewater rapid. The way they've refined their trademark style, splicing syncopated chugs with bright layered chords, mournful lead guitars with shimmering tremolos, and full-bodied roars with hardcore wails and gentle cleans is absolutely breathtaking.

What really gets me hyped about this record is how it impeccably balances its constituent elements such that each makes meaningful contributions to the whole. Late album highlight "Blood in the Furrows" stands as one of the finest examples of this group's capabilities fully realized, with a distinct air of bittersweet triumph glowing from gorgeous leads and compelling verses as the song froths into an emotional, yet immolating firestorm. The album is filled with beautiful melancholy, melodic but with a solid death metal punch, progressive and skillful with memorable touching and catchy moments. This isn't just another prog-death release - it's an unqualified success, surpassing damn near everything that came before it and setting the bar ever higher for the Swedish powerhouse.
